since 1955, the air district has worked to improve air quality in the bay area, passing many first-in-the-nation regulations since our founding.

The challenge of climate change has led us to re-envision our work to include greenhouse gas reductions and to address the increasing frequency and severity of wildfires and related smoke impacts. Through partnerships with communities, local governments and industry, we are continuing to develop innovative strategies to reduce emissions and cool the climate.
