Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Within the Air District

Expanding Initiatives

Throughouttheyear,ourstaffengagedinvariousactivitiesandlearningopportunitiestoadvanceourdiversity,equity,andinclusionefforts.AlignedwithourFive-YearStrategicPlan,theOfficeofDE&Iwillexpandandlaunchseveralkeyinitiatives.Theseprogramsaimtoensurethatourworkforcereflectsthecommunitiesweserveandfosteranunderstandingofthevalueofdiversity.

Newinitiativesincludeanenvironmentaljusticescholarshipandfellowshipforlocalstudentsandearly-careerprofessionalsfromunderrepresentedbackgrounds,pathwaystopermanencyfortemporaryemployees,andtoolstohelpmanagersalignworkforcedemographicswithcommunityprofiles.

Additionally,weareexpandingDE&Ilearningprogramstoenhanceculturalcompetency,supportingprofessionalgrowththroughmentorshipandleadershiptraining,andintroducinganEmployeeResourceGroupempowermentprogramtostrengtheninclusion.

Wearealsointegratingequityintoourprocurementpracticesanddecision-makingprocessesbydevelopingasupplierdiversityprogram,aswellasstandardizedequityassessmentsforkeydocuments,ensuringthatequityimplicationsofproposedactionsarefullymeasuredandarticulatedbeforetheyareimplemented.

Wecreatedandutilizeacomprehensiveplantoensuremeaningfulaccesstoservices,programs,andactivitiesforindividualswithlimitedEnglishproficiency(LEP).

LEPindividualsarethoseforwhomEnglishisnottheprimarylanguageandwhohavelimitedabilitytoread,write,speak,orunderstandEnglish.Thisguidancedocumentandreport,includingmapping,wasdevelopedtoenhanceourabilitytoengageandserveindividualsintheBayAreawhospeaklanguagesotherthanEnglish,ensuringthatLEPpersonscanfullyaccessandbenefitfromourprogramsandservices.
